Style Me Up

Now that my hair is getting longer, and the wash & go thing was not happening, I have been experimenting with different  protective styles. I pretty much wanted to protect my hair from the wind and that good ole hand in hair syndrome. To style gel was applied, as the hair was french braided up, followed by a twist swoop to the right side. To finish up and to keep the hair in place I used an old rhinestone clip. By the way, I was feeling like a big time Rasta with them twists. I would totally do some twists again, I love the locs feel it gives me.

Sister Act on Broadway

I first would like to say Thank You to the amazing Imani of TribeCalledCurl for allowing me to be apart of such an amazing National Natural Hair Meetup Day event. I would also like to thank Shea Moisture for giving me the opportunity to win such an amazing prize of goodies.

As most of you know I won a couple of goodies on National Natural Hair Meetup Day. One of those prizes gave me the opportunity to see the amazing broadway show Sister Act and I absolutely loved it.

When your on broadway it’s just so much different. The lights, the action and most of all those amazing musicals. You gotta love NYC!

Well let me get on to tell you how AMAZING Sister Act was. It was a fun filled, and very comedic show starring the beautiful Raven- Symone and … among a cast many other talented actors and singers. When I tell you those people can sing…they can SANG. I loved every minute of it. Oh, and I loved that natural hair she was rocking during the show. Sadly, the show is only around for a short time. So if you haven’t seen it try your best to get some tickets fast. It’s a must see.

This experience was a great way to bring my summer days to an end. The best part of it all was I got to meet Raven-Symone. She was super sweet and has a beautiful spirit.

PS I’m hoping she stops by Aphrodite Kinks. 🙂

Was supposed to bring a curlfriend, but as you can see I had to bring a permed friend.

How long have you been natural?

I have been natural for 3 months.

Did you transition or do the Big Chop?
I transitioned for a year and then did the big chop on my one year mark.

Why did you choose that route?
I chose this route because I was a tad bit insecure about how I would look. When I did the big chop I was beyond satisfied.

How long did you transition?
I transitioned for a year.

What inspired you to have natural hair?
I experienced breakage with my last perm and decided to transition. I was inspired by a lot of natural haired beauties on youtube.

What has kept you motivated to remain natural?
Seeing other people who have transitioned to natural hair and how healthy their hair was after the process.

What are two(2) natural hair products that you just can’t live without? Why?
Two natural hair products I can’t live without is Taliah Waajid’s Curl Sealer and Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Mousse.

What is your favorite way to wear your hair?
Being that my hair is really short right now I’d prefer to wear a wash and go.

What do you love about your natural hair?
I love that it doesn’t take a lot of effort to get ready in the morning.

What do you dislike about it?
I can’t think of anything I dislike about my natural hair. I love everything about my curly fro!

What tip(s) would you recommend to someone who wants to become natural, is transitioning, or needs advice about natural hair?
Don’t give up and look for inspiration on natural hair blogs as often as needed to keep you going! If you’re in the process of transitioning try to wear as many protective styles as possible so that you don’t damage your curl pattern.

That Damn Hair

I recently have been hearing a lot about “The Damn Salon” and was interested in seeing what it was all about. Well let me tell you it is Damn excellence.

Some may or may not have heard of them but here is a quick bio on “The Damn Salon”…

The damn salon is certainly not just your everyday hair salon or braiding parlor. Damn is a beauty movement. We are about hair. We are about make-up. We are about being natural and still high fashion. We are about being conscious and still exciting. We are about being intellectual leaders and teachers, who are intelligent enough to know when to follow. We are about being fierce and DAMN, we have attitude for days but are humble enough to give. We are confident in our art, in our selves, in our goals, in our beliefs and in exactly what God made us to be. We are beautiful to the fullest of our potential and frankly dont give a damn what other people think. Through our art, we aim to inspire and dare you to be beautiful to your fullest potential. Our art is unique and has inspired and attracted women internationally. Our clients fly in religiously to experience our damn services from as far as California, New York, Hawaii, DC, Toronto, Alaska and even Europe. Yes that may seem farfetched, but once you’ve had damn experience, you too would travel to be damned.
