Found this AMAZING lady on my usual Instagram flow, and let me tell y’all! Girl got some bomb ass skills with the art!

Y’all gotta check out her Tressumé, to learn about this talented young lady.

How long have you been natural?

I have been natural for a little over two yearsketurahart

Did you transition or do the Big Chop?

I transitioned for 6months and then did the big chop, although I cut parts of it along the way.

Why did you choose that route?

I have always had a lot of hair, and so wearing my hair short was a little frightening. Plus, I have a big head, so I didn’t think rocking a short cut would be cute.

How long did you transition?

6 months , cutting bangs first then so on and so forth.

What inspired you to have natural hair?

I was working at the Columbus Museum of Art under the contemporary art curator. She probably was my biggest hair inspiration, because she was a professional woman of color with gorgeous natural hair working in an institution where no one looks like her.

What has kept you motivated to remain natural?

I LOVE the versatility of being natural. I love wearing various textures of curls, but I also love to wear it straight from time to time. Basically, I was tired of looking like the same person everyday, being natural gave me freedom.

What are two(2) natural hair products that you just can’t live without? Why?

Crème of Nature Conditioning Shampoo and Knot Today by Kinky Curly. My hair has the tendency to become a tangled hot mess and these products both make my hair soft and easy to detangle.

What is your favorite way to wear your hair?

girl1Right now I have been trying the bantu knot outs which, so far I love velocity.

What do you love about your natural hair?

I feel more myself than I felt before. It’s an amazing feeling.

What do you dislike about it?

I have a hard time controlling my hair to stay in particular styles, especially in humidity.  Sometimes the unruly behavior works for me, in humidity it’s almost always against me.

What tip(s) would you recommend to someone who wants to become natural, is transitioning, or needs advice about natural hair?

Just do it, you will love it. Every act of change has a transitional period. Tough it out, put your eyes on the prize, and your back to the wind. It’s an amazing bond, the one a black girl creates with her hair, especially when perhaps her whole life she’s been told that who she is naturally, isn’t beautiful.

Comments: Please check out my art. With the response that I have been receiving about the paintings, I realized there’s a market for natural hair art. It’s about embracing who you are. It’s beautiful, and I want to continue to be apart of this movement. More art is on it’s way!

Kinky Curly Wash ‘n Go

Today’s products….

If you have read my Curl Daze post, you know that I won the whole Kinky Curly product kit. So today I decided to try some of the products out. I chose the above Knot Today Detangler/Leave In and the Curling Custard.

To prep my hair I applied some water, Vatika Oil and the Wen Intensive Hair Treatment. After applying I twisted my hair adding some of my castor oil mixture. I then covered my hair with a shower cap and my satin bonnet leaving it overnight.

This morning I washed the contents of the Wen Intensive Hair Treatment out of my hair with the twists still in. The Kinky Curly Knot Today was applied twice, then I untwisted my hair and rinsed.

Once out of the shower I applied more Knot Today and combed through my hair in sections using the Curling Custard. I then ended with the results below…

How I felt about the results….the Knot today left my hair feeling clean and very moisturized, though it did leave my hair feeling a bit striped. The Curling Custard did define my hair and left my hair smelling like candy which I liked. The down side was it made my hair feel like I had candy in it, that was not fun at all.

I would definitely try the products again using less of the Curling Custard. I really feel I have not mastered my measuring skills when defining my curls with Gel like products. Better luck next time.

Love your Kinks,

How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural now for 3 years

Did you transition or do the Big Chop?
I transitioned.

How long did you transition?
For 8 months.

Why did you choose that route?
I had never had short hair my whole life, so cutting it ALL off scared me. I transitioned for 8 months and wanted to go longer, but by that point I was so tired of the 2 different hair textures that I just wanted to cut it and learn about my natural hair.

What inspired you to have natural hair? A lot of things influenced my decision to go natural. The MAIN reason was because I was tired of getting relaxers and not having many options. I also wanted to be proud of my hair just the way it was and not feel like it had to be straight for me to look good or feel accepted. I used to think that only people with certain textures (looser curls) could go natural, but the more and more I’d see pictures of beautiful women with all kinds of textures wearing their natural hair, the more it encouraged me to just do it.

What has kept you motivated to remain natural?
Hmm… I didn’t need much motivation. I loved my hair from the moment the relaxer was cut off. I think I just loved the feeling of being free and finally feeling like myself was my motivation.

What are two(2) natural hair products that you just can’t live without? Why? Coconut Oil and Kinky Curly Knot Today. No matter what other products I try, those two are my staples and I can’t stop using them. Coconut Oil is light and gives my hair this phenomenal shine. And it smells good. Kinky Curly Knot Today provides excellent moisture and is the best leave-in I have used to-date.

What is your favorite way to wear your hair?
Twist outs are my staple. It keeps my hair from tangling and gives it body and volume.

What do you love about your natural hair? I love that it is unique to me. No one’s hair is just like mine, that is what I love the most.

What do you dislike about it?
I wish it were a little thicker. But we always want what we don’t have, right? 😉

What tip(s) would you recommend to someone who wants to become natural, is transitioning, or needs advice about natural hair?

Most of all, to be patient! I see so many women wanting hair to their knees in a week! Lol Focus on the health of your hair and the growth will come, believe me. Learn to love your hair texture and not want anyone else’s. And do your own research so you know all you can about your hair.
