Protein…Happy Hair

As I mentioned in my unhappy hair post, my hair was extremely dry and just wasn’t acting right. After stalking all the natural hair vloggers for sometime now I decided to actually take some of there tips. I figured it was time to treat my hair with a little protein. After all she deserved it.

I started by trimming my ends, followed by my shampoo. Yes, Shea Moisture.

Freshly washed hair, looking not so bad after the trim.

The protein treatment I used was by the beautiful, talented and super amazing Whitney also known as Naptural85. It consisted of eggs, mayo, and honey. You can check it out below.

My hair soaked in the mixture. It got really messy; I had to cover my hair with my shower cap and a towel to prevent dripping.

I left it on for 45 minutes, rinsed with cool water and followed with my conditioner, then finger detangled.

These are the result of my protein filled hair post wash. My curlies sprouting so beautiful. My hair is HAPPY.20120822-153040.jpg

Following the rinse, I applied my Curl and Style milk (moisturizer) and my Vatika Oil (sealer).

Yummy!! My Curls are back!!

This months box was pretty simple, well at least for me. So let me give you the scoop, three random people got Huetiful hair steamers. Poor me was having dreams back to back about winning one from my July CurlBox. It didn’t happen but, I’m telling you it has to. I will soon be united with my Huetiful. Congrats to those three lucky folks, enjoy it for me!

The products in this box were:

Motions Naturally You: Moisturizing Cleanser & Smoothing Conditioner

Shea Radiance: Nourishing Hair Repair Cream

Jane Carter Solution: Condition and Sculpt

Lusters: Pink Classic Light

….. And those three random you win cards with gold bottle…..Hmmmm Le Sigh

Lol

Now lets talk about the catalogue with the beautiful Mae better known as NaturalChica, isn’t she looking fab, fly. What I liked most about this month’s catalogue was what was written inside. It was all about taking risks. I found that this issue was definitely speaking to me. Thanks to Myleik I’m feeling extra motivated. You may see some changes around here on Aphrodite Kinks *wink wink*

I leave you with this “Whatever you think, think the opposite”.

So I have been receiving my glam bags for 2 months now and I am finally taking the time to showcase all the amazing items inside my 3rd months bag. I think this might have been my favorite bag yet why I’m so excited to share it with you all!! Plus the actual bag was the cutest; a multicolored mesh

So what’s inside my Glam Bag:

Circus by Andrea’s Choice: Somersault(yellow) nail color

Buxom Lips: Big & Healthy lip polish

Juice Beauty: Green Apple SPF15 Moisturizer

NU.ME: HydroPunch hydrating conditioner

YES to cucumbers: On the go facial towelettes

I was most excited about the lip polish, being that I have been playing around with lip colors a tad; it looks rather fierce. Those facial towelettes; a lady can always use those. Maybe a review or two will be in the near future.

Eden Body Works Tea Tree Oil Review

I got the chance to use my Eden Body Works Tea Tree Oil , which was in one of my CurlBox‘s. I had heard raves about how good it was, so I had to try it. I used the tea tree oil conditioner as a Co Wash, applied to my hair and rinsed for another application. After the final rinse I applied my Karen’s Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia Leave In.

What I liked: I liked that the tea tree oil gave my hair a tingly feeling

What I disliked: It was a bit too minty for me (made my eyes get watery), and I expected for my hair to have some kind of definition being that it was a co wash.

I am not sure if I would use this product again for sure but I would definitely give it a try. What did not work for me may work for you!

Smooth Prepoo

So a short time ago I decided to stir up a mixture for my hair. I so wanted to share it with you all immediately, but I just had to ensure good results.

20120225-181111.jpg

And yes, I got excellent results!!

Things I used:

Coconut Oil (aka my staple)

20120225-174226.jpg

Olive Oil(I just used whatever was around)

20120225-174347.jpg

Honey

20120225-174426.jpg

Shea Moisture Conditioner(which I used the first time)

20120225-174620.jpg

Cantu Leave-In(which I used the second time)

20120225-174816.jpg

The first time mixture smelled so great, smelled just like candy which I loved. I used it as an overnight prepoo and the results were amazing!! My hair smelled good and it was extremely soft. The mixtures was also thick.

With the second time mixture I just used it as a quick prepoo. I put on my heating cap for about an hour and washed. It didn’t smell as good as the first mixture, and my hair was not as soft as it was with the overnight regimen. Though the mixture was a lot smoother than the first time mixture.

You too can mix your own prepoo!
Try it out with your own household kitchen items lying around. Be sure to share your results. I would love to hear about them all.

Until next time….

Transitioned Curl

When one first enters there journey, there thinking “how am I going to get this to look good?…I have straight and curly hair”. Don’t worry every transitioner has probably felt just like you; I know I did!

The biggest frustration is those two darn textures. You have to figure out how to make it blend(and I hope your not using those heat tools on your strands). In the beginning, I did use a flat iron with a protectant spray some days. After finding that your hair can get badly damaged from using heat, I immediately stopped torturing my beautiful natural strands.

Before deciding to go natural I often did what is called braid outs using water and a gel. These braids outs never lasted past a day. Finally, taking the step to transitioning I figured I have to find a way to get my hair to blend.

There are numerous styles that can help ensure the protection of your beautiful tresses as well as look cute.

Some of the styles are your:
• Braid out
• Twist out
• Bantu knots
• Bantu knot out
• Flexi rod set
• Straw set
• Wigs
• Weaves
• Extensions

I preferably want to go for the natural curly look and knew that I had experiences with braid outs. Some people might use the other techniques mentioned but, this is the route I have chosen mostly to achieve that look.

How I achieve this look

20120204-094546.jpg

I,
• put my hair into 4 sections
• wash my hair using only Shea Moisture black soap conditioner(sometimes I may even use their shampoo products)section by section.
• put my hair into four twists
• dry using an old t-shirt
• apply my Shea Moisture reconstructing mask which I mentioned before.
• apply coconut oil to seal my hair(focusing on my ends)

When all of that is finished, I braid my hair, sit under my bonnet dryer for about an hour, then cover my head with my trusty satin bonnet. The next day I unbraid and my curls are BEAUTIFUL! Using this method felt so good. My braid out finally lasted for a longer time, and looked great.

Do remember if you try this same method their is a possibility it may not work the same. You have to play around with your hair and find the best methods for you and your hair.

Until next time….
